INTRODUCTION

Communication design is a mixed discipline between design and informationdevelopment which is concerned with how media intervention such as printed, crafted, electronic media or presentations communicate with people. A communication design approach is not only concerned with developing the message aside from the aesthetics in media, but also with creating new media channels to ensure the message reaches the target audience. Some designers use graphic design and communication design interchangeably due to overlapping skills.

Communication design is an audio-visual language used to attract, inform, inspire and trigger a response from the target audience either to inform the end-user about a product or service, build a brand, drive sales or to support a humanitarian cause. A field that includes the application of Graphic design, Animation, and Multimedia Tools, Communication

Design touches every aspect of our lives be it watching an ad on TV, Playing a Video Game, using a Mobile App, or getting enticed by an exciting book cover. It is a commercial art form that can be mastered with patient study and dedicated practice. Armed with tools of the trade, you will be tasked with visually enthralling the target audience.

EDUCATION

Students of communication design learn how to create visual messages and broadcast them to the world in new and meaningful ways. In the complex digital environment around us, communication design has become a powerful means of reaching out to the target audience. Students learn how to combine communication with art and technology. Communication Design discipline involves teaching how to design web pages, video games, animation, motion graphics and more.

Communication Design has content as its main purpose. It must achieve a reaction or get the customer to see a product in a genuine way to attract sales or get a message across. Students of Communications Design are often Illustrators, Graphic Designers, Web designers, Advertising artists, Animators, Video Editors, Motion graphic artists, or even Printmakers and Conceptual Artists. CAREER FOR COMMUNICATION DESIGNERS

Graphic Designer: Graphic designers create visual products for print and digital in a number of fields, from newspapers to public relations. They design books, magazines, flyers or posters using softwares or manual sketching. They combine their skills in visual arts and communication to help illustrate complex ideas in an accessible way for businesses and consumers.

UI/UX Designer: A user experience designer is a computer design professional who monitors the user experience of digital products, identifies areas for improvement and boosts digital offerings to ensure they’re user-friendly

Advertising: Designers think visually to create ad campaigns that help brand a product, using their skills to create logos and icons that might appear in print ads in magazines, product packaging and pop-up ads on websites.

Digital imaging technician: A digital imaging technician chief (DIT) works in the motion picture industry.The DIT works in collaboration with the cinematographer on workflow, systemization, camera settings, signal integrity and image manipulation to achieve the highest image quality and creative goals of cinematography in the digital realm

Photojournalist: As the saying goes, a picture can be worth a thousand words. Photojournalists can capture a moment in time that encapsulates an entire story, from the fatigue in a laborer’s stance to the fear in the eyes of a child after a bombing.

Art/Design Director: These visual communications professionals use their skills in a variety of organizations, from a publishing house or visual communication agency to a nonprofit. Generally, they are the ones who oversee graphic and web designers, using their leadership skills to help create an array of visual communications projects.

Communications Manager: Often visual communication merges with verbal communication in an organization. These multifaceted professionals must be proficient in presenting a message from annual report to magazine article in both words and pictures.

Animation Designer: An animation designer utilizes sketching & computer technology to create stories, images and effects for movies, television, websites and video games. It also coordinates projects and animators to produce 3D animation.

Information Designer: Information designer practices presenting information in a way that makes it most accessible and easily understood by users. Information design is targeted to specific audiences in specific situations to meet defined objectives.
